Actual hours after it finally opened, a multi-vehicle crash happens on it. Love my town.

Also, too bad they didn’t build another trestle bridge. Trestle bridges are cool.

I didn’t know BMW made cop cars..

Nah, much easier to build a concrete bridge. It’s maintenance-free!!*
*until chunks start falling out 20 years later and there’s no money to pay for them, but all the local politicians will be retired by then.

I’m not a fan of the outdated Taurus design, but “historical marker” is just harsh.

Heres a good bridge story:
After three years, the Jefferson Avenue drawbridge has finally reopened, allowing traffic to flow once again between Detroit and River Rouge ...
...The cost to stabilize and repair the bridge exceeded $20 million...
...The person responsible for the damage, a then-45-year-old woman who had been a county bridge operator for 17 years, was intoxicated when she lowered the drawbridge as the 670-foot Herbert C. Jackson was preparing to pass.

If I recall correctly, I don’t think she was ever charged or proven to be intoxicated.
The bridge was built in 1922 and probably needed some work anyway.

I feel like if it wasn’t proven they would have wrote the article differently. Further in it said she only had to pay a $1,000 fine and got fired obviously.
Sad being on the other side, had to feel pretty shitty get cut off from Detroit of all places.
EDIT: I actually was getting the Oakwood Heights, Fort St bridge and the Jefferson bridge confused. They were both not working for a year at the same time.

Agreed trestle bridges are cool! Near me they painted the overhead parts of one im slightly changing hues from red to blue, making it look like a rainbow if you drive across the bridge.
Ps. the bridge is near Nijmegen, and played a part in Operation Market Garden, so it was renamed to John S. Thompson bridge after the war, in honour of the lieutenant in charge of capturing it.

You had me at Nijmegen. Market Garden is quite a story. Also, this , something I wrote about an old trestle bridge on Rte. 66.

Snark at the cop parked sideways blocking traffic.

It’s quite the story, and while it didn’t fully succeed, it did liberate the region where I live (between Eindhoven and Nijmegen), so that’s makes it a bit more special.
Nice shots of an interesting bridge, too bad it is left to rot :( I’m glad they keep most of the (trestle) bridges around here in good condition.

Hell no. That would actually be cool. It’s a leftover from the town’s coal mining days.
